During the past few days, I designed some artwork for the – newly made public – Linux distribution of a comrade. I can’t code anything but basic PHP so I felt fairly useless as a beta tester. I’m much more used to doing branding, marketing and art in general. Anyway, the distribution in question is called the Tritech Service System Community Release Edition (TSS) and is aimed at being used to repair broken systems and such.

Its main highlights are as follows:

- Extremely small (under 40 Mb of compressed data!) and lightweight; only includes what is necessary.
- Functions entirely from RAM which means that whatever media you used to boot it can be removed while you use the OS.
- Relies on bleeding-edge software as much as possible.

Now as for the artwork (© 2010 c02ware):

The official logo.

The wallpaper, with the logo and text.

The wallpaper, without the logo and text.

I highly advise anyone who regularly has to repair computers on the software side, as well as Linux enthusiasts in general, to give the TSS a try. It has an interesting concept and is truly innovative on several planes. You can read more about it on its creator’s blog.

The artwork pictured above, other based upon it, as well as an abundance of new software and overall improvements (for example, even smaller size and footprint) will be included in the upcoming version of the TSS: 1.4. Its release is scheduled for early next week. Stay tuned!

/update 2010-03-05

The creator of the TSS has opted to put more emphasis on releasing a more polished version late, rather than an “incomplete” product soon. He will therefore release the TSS 2.0 by the end of March, and skip all intermediary releases.

/update 2010-03-20

The TSS 2.0 was released today, with many more features than version 1.3, and the graphics above. I will also be working on the visuals for the next version.
